Each year Southwest commits ten percent of its annual budget to support three selected ministries outside our church plus the various programs of the Canadian Baptists of Western Canada.
We are active supporters of Impact Ministries. We have been supporting mission trips to Guatemala since 1992 and are a past recipient of the Kamloops YMCA/YWCA Peace Award. Over $32,000 was raised through our churchfamily to help build the Vida Chijulha school, which opened its doors in January 2018.
Janice & Terry Bowdler
We are also pleased to support one of our “home-grown” missionaries, Janice Bowdler, as she works with her husband, Terry, and three children in Youth With A Mission Australia. Their unique ministry is to “train, mobilize and equip surfers for missions and to reach out to their local surf community.”
Canadian Baptist Ministries (CMB)
CBM serves people who live on the margins through partnerships that work in two directions. CBM’s first network of partners consists of individuals, congregations, Canadian Baptist denominations and women’s groups, foundations, and businesses in Canada who want to help address important global issues through the generous sharing of resources. The second network of partners is located primarily in the Global South. Each partnership has developed out of unique historical circumstances and an appeal for assistance. These congregations are often located in communities of extreme poverty and social alienation. CBM assists these local churches through mission initiatives that respond to social needs and opportunities for effective witness through word and deed.
Other International Causes
Individual members of Southwest support other international causes such as: the Christmas Shoeboxes, the yearly denominational youth ministry called SERVE, the Kapsowar Hospital in Kenya (a regional hospital operated by Samaritan’s purse), Christian camps for children and youth, short-term mission teams to various parts of the world and other great ministries.
